Practicing Sociology

Research Interests

Gerontology and Aging, Critical Theory, Crime and Deviance, Rural Houselessness, Social Movements.

Education/Career Goals

Finish the M.A. program then work as an organizer for a community nonprofit, eventually run for local elected office (city council/board of supervisors/state assembly/senate), and potentially attend a PhD program.

Before the Program

I recently graduated with my B.A. in Criminology and Justice Studies from Humboldt. Through the internship I began working with True North Organizing Network, a local non-profit that focuses on Houselessness, environmental stewardship, police accountability, immigrant rights, and water rights.

Why Humboldt Public Sociology

First of all, I felt that I still had a lot to learn from the faculty at Humboldt. Also, I am an Arcata local, and staying at Humboldt allows me to stay close to my family and community.

About Humboldt Public Sociology

I would advise prospective students to advantage of opportunities to work with nonprofits and cultivate strong community connections and relationships.

Favorite Place to See/Visit in Humboldt County

Anywhere in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (and by extension, seeing/experiencing Roosevelt elk herds and other wildlife).
