Application Materials

  • Application and Fee: Apply through the Cal State Apply Application (general CSU application, for all campuses). Note that your application will require an Application Fee of $70. If this application fee is a barrier, please refer to Cal State Apply for possible fee waivers.
  • Transcripts: Request transcript(s) from all college or university you have attended to be sent to Admissions at Cal Poly Humboldt
  • Statement of Purpose: A statement on your plans and objectives (your reasons for applying to our Master’s Program) must be submitted within your application on Cal State Apply. You should explicitly address, your academic and professional experience related to sociology and/or your interests (include interests in Teaching Associate, Graduate Assistant, or Instructional Student Assistant positions), the areas of sociology that you are interested in researching and studying, your reasons for choosing the Humboldt Public Sociology program, and your post-MA professional goals.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three (3) reference letters submitted online through Cal State Apply. Ideally, at least two of those letters should be from faculty members with whom you recently took one or more classes. If you have questions, please contact the Graduate Admissions Office 707-826-6250.

NOTE: You do NOT need to enter a GRE score in the Cal State Apply Application.

NOTE: We strongly encourage you to submit a writing sample in supplemantal section of the Calstate Apply Application

To assure that your application can be considered, please confirm that your file is complete before the deadline. Even if a reference tells you that their letter has been sent, it is always a good idea to check that it has been received and placed in your file.

If you have any questions about the application process or our program, please feel free to contact the Graduate Coordinator, Jennifer Eichstedt (Jennifer.Eichstedt@humboldt.edu) or Humboldt Graduate Admissions.
