Education/Career Goals
I aspire to continue my career in teaching while applying anti-bias teaching strategies that are inclusive in the classroom.
Before the Program
I graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2010 with a Bachelor's in Environmental Studies and Psychology. During my time there I served as Vice President of the Environmental Student Organization where I organized my college campus community to rally around the promotion of concepts such as environmental justice and sustainability. My activism extends, too, towards seeking LGBTQ equality. Since the age of 14, I have been involved in today's LGBTQ social movements leading marches, rallies, protests, and demonstrations. Most recently, I've found myself teaching in a multitude of settings with elementary aged learners.
Why Humboldt Public Sociology
I chose Humboldt because of its unique emphasis on both teaching and the environment -- two things I care a great deal about. I stayed at Humboldt for its incredibly supportive faculty, staff, and caring community of learners. I would recommend this program and its educators, widely.
About Humboldt Public Sociology
My pro tip for current students and students who are thinking about the program is to consider your area of interest in all of your coursework. Write (honestly) about the relationship between your coursework and your area of interest often - this will come in handy when you're looking to finish your thesis.
Favorite place to see/visit in Humboldt County
My favorite outdoor excursions in Humboldt County are Moonstone Beach, Fern Canyon, and Strawberry Rock. My favorite indoor excursions are Far North Climbing Gym and Larrupin's.
