PSCI 413. Moot Court

Students will learn and prepare appellate arguments in two-person teams for hypothetical cases to be argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court [Prereq: PSCI 410 or PSCI 412 and junior standing or greater.] CJS Majors email the instructor requesting a permission number if you have not taken PSCI 410 or 412. At the instructor discretion a permission number might be granted.

This course will prepare students to participate in undergraduate moot court competitions, which simulate the experience of making appellate oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court. Students will argue hypothetical constitutional cases. To do so, they will develop legal research and analysis skills. They will also hone their oral and rhetorical skills by practicing their legal arguments in class and compete against students from other schools in regional and national competitions (organized by the American Moot Court Association, or AMCA).
