Current Career

I am currently attending the University of California Riverside, where I am pursuing my PhD in Sociology.

Thesis

The thesis that I wrote at Humboldt, investigated the bullying and delinquent experiences of 11 undergraduate students whom at the time were attending Humboldt. My study provided an insight to each of my participants’ personal experiences with bullying and delinquency, and how their experiences impacted their current self-concept of belongingness and social support.

Before the Program

Before I attended Humboldt I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of California Irvine. I received two bachelor degrees, one in Psychology and Social Behavior, and one in Criminology in Law and Society. I was employed as a Behavioral Interventionist for an agency located in Orange County California. As a Behavioral Interventionist I specialized in working with autistic children between the ages of 3 to 12 while using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy. Through using ABA therapy, I was able to monitor, analyze, and modify my clients’ behaviors, so that they could become individuals who are confident and self-reliant.

Why I Chose Humboldt Public Sociology

I decided to attend Humboldt after I had learned that Humboldt’s department of Public Sociology offers an emphasis in “Teaching Sociology,” and I felt that the emphasis in teaching suited my personal aspirations in wanting to teach higher education, and pursue research.

About Humboldt Public Sociology

Take advantage of the opportunities that the Sociology department has to offer, such as attending academic conferences, participating in academic clubs, working as an editor for the Humboldt Journal of Social Relations, or serving as a graduate student representative for your fellow cohort.
