Before the Program

Before the MA program, I attended Humboldt’s Sociology undergraduate program. As an undergrad I enjoyed leading student groups that brought awareness to social justice issues and civil liberties. I had events that included a conversation with sweatshop workers, activists, and leaders in the field of civil liberties. I really enjoyed what I was doing and wanted to continue my studies so I decided to stay for my Masters.

Why Humboldt Sociology

The program is an excellent choice for those who want to deepen their understanding of the social world while learning from some of the best faculty in Sociology.

How Humboldt Sociology Helped

Humboldt certainly helped incubate my sociological mind. I currently work on the forefront of combating the massive teacher shortage that California will be experiencing and have been looking at how our pipeline of teacher preparation has decreased over the years. I work with leadership at all local districts as well as the second largest district in the nation (LAUSD) to once again inspire new educators to enter the field. I look at the big picture and analyze data to point out where things have gone wrong and dispel myths many have accepted about what it is to be an educator. As the recruitment officer, I’m charged with breaking the cycle and once again increasing the pipeline of new teachers. Not only is increasing the pipeline of teachers my duty but I’m also in charge of diversifying our teacher population.  I made a career out of raising awareness and inspiring others to be agents of transformation.

In addition to my career in education, I also work in voiceover. So if any faculty members ever come across a familiar voice while listening to the radio, it just may very well be me.
